Apple is taking a leap into original content for iPhone with a significant upgrade to its Podcasts app on iOS 17. The tech giant has introduced a redesigned layout and exciting new features that promise to enhance the overall podcast listening experience.
The Apple Podcasts app underwent a redesign back in June during its beta release and has now been officially rolled out. The new look stays true to its initial design, with vibrant and colorful elements. Notably, the Now Playing screen showcases a blurry version of the podcast cover art, adding a visually appealing touch. The volume and playback progress slides also adopt the sleek style found in the Music app. Additionally, chapter lists now display the time remaining until the next episode, allowing for better navigation. The search functionality has been improved, enabling users to filter results by Top Results, Shows, Episodes, and Channels for a more targeted search experience.
Starting from September 26, subscribers to Apple Music, Apple News Plus, Calm, or Lingokids will gain access to over 60 original podcasts. This expansion includes a wide range of content, such as news briefs, radio shows, educational courses, guided meditations, and narrated articles. The Apple News Plus Narrated show will offer narrated articles from select publications, including GQ and The New Yorker. Notably, new episodes of original programming will be released every week throughout the autumn season, offering users a constant stream of fresh and engaging content.
In the coming month, Apple will introduce a new API for third-party companies, allowing them to integrate their content apps with Apple Podcasts. This integration will enable users to enjoy their favorite shows without the need for additional apps, streamlining their podcast listening experience. To access this feature, users will need to connect their subscriptions to Apple Podcasts. Once connected, they can easily browse through a broadcast’s library across various devices, including their iPhone or Apple Watch. Initially, only a few publications, such as the Wall Street Journal, Mamamia, and The Economist, will support this integration. However, the API opens the door for other developers to join in the future.
The upgraded Apple Podcasts app on iOS 17 brings a fresh and vibrant design, making podcast listening more visually appealing. With expanded content offerings and seamless integration with connected subscriptions, users can now enjoy a diverse range of podcasts without the hassle of multiple apps. Whether you’re seeking news, education, or relaxation, the new Apple Podcasts app has something for everyone. So grab your iPhone and dive into the world of original and engaging podcasts today!
